Happy New Year!

Another year over. Amazing! Where does the time go? 2005 wasn't a bad year so I'm not overwhelmingly glad to see it go but, on the other hand, it wasn't a spactacular year either so I'm hoping and looking forward to what 2006 may bring.

I hope the new year brings y'all many wonderful times!

ARGH!!!

While doing a seldom lurk on ebay just now (I've GOT to stay away from there; otherwise, my checkbook gets very scared) I stumbled upon this amber Tea Room vase up on the cyber-auction block. So far the price is $425.00.

Tea Room is one of the styles of Depression Era glass I've collected now since I bought my first piece at a Depression Era glass convention in Durham, NC back in 1989. The style was put out by the Indiana Glass Company from 1926 to 1931 and in the colors coke-bottle green, clear, and pink. They also put out very few pieces in amber and now, 75-80 years later, there's even fewer of them still around and are highly prized by collectors.

I already have one vase in amber and an amber creamer and sugar bowl but my Inner Golum covets The Precious. ::LeSigh:: What to do? What to do? Should I be practical and not feed my shopping jones? Or give in? Alas, if it was an amber pitcher, I'd already be betting my fingers off since THAT is the one piece I decided to go for if I ever came across it. Yes, I do have a personal Holy Grail.

In other news, I spoke to my mother earlier tonight and she's having fun in Switzerland. She's there with my sister and nephew till Thursday on a vacation. Her only gripe is that there's SO much snow there right now and she ain't used to it anymore.

Happy Holidays!

From "Northern Exposure":

As told by Chris Stevens:

"It's an old legend, that on Christmas Eve at midnight, all the animals fall on their knees and speak -- praising the new born Jesus.

(pausing to reflect)

Back in the winter of '68, my Dad was doing a short term for D and D. Mom was -- I'm not sure where Mom was. Anyway, I was home alone on Christmas Eve and I stayed up late to see if my dog, Buster, would talk. He did -- at least I think he did. I don't remember Buster's exact words, but that's not important. What matters is that a seven-year-old boy experienced his own personal epiphany.

My point? It's that Christmas reveals itself to each of us in a personal way -- be it secular or sacred. Whatever Christmas is -- and it's many things to many people -- we all own a piece of it. Kinda like Santa's bag, inside there's gift for everyone.

My Christmas wish for you tonight -- may your dog talk"

"The Legend of the Raven" as told by Marilyn Whirlwind:

""A long time ago, the raven looked down from the sky and saw that the people of the world were living in darkness.

The ball of light was kept hidden by a selfish old chief.

So the raven turned himself into a spruce needle and floated on the river where the chief's daughter came for water.

She drank the spruce needle.

She became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, who was the raven in disguise.

The baby cried and cried until the chief gave him the ball of light to play with.

As soon as he had the light, the raven turned back into himself.

The raven carried the light into the sky.

From then on, we no longer lived in darkness."

In other news, in my own version of being tortured during the holidays, friggin' two hours in the dentist chair today getting two small cavities filled and another tooth grinded down for a crown and then handed the bill which I wanted to pay off before next weekend so I can write it off as a medical expense on my taxes. I don't have dental insurance so lucky me pays completely outta pocket. That sucks when you gotta pay for a crown.

Other than that, all my final grades for the semester were finally posted; all A's. Yay me!

Hey, AFA! NEENER NEENER!

From Business Week Magazine:

Ford Affirms Gay Publication Support. No Victory For AFA

Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday afternoon said it will run ads in gay publications, reversing a decision last week to pull advertising of its Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands from such publications. In a letter to gay, lesbian and human rights groups, Ford said it has decided to run ads for all eight of its brands--Ford, Ford Truck, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover in gay targeted publications. Previously, Ford did not advertise Ford, Lincoln, Mercury in gay publications.

"It is my hope that this will remove any ambiguity about Ford's desire to advertise to all important audiences and put this particular issue behind us," Joe Laymon, Ford's group vice president for corporate human resources, wrote in the letter, which was posted on Ford's web site.

The American Family Association last week gave up an eight month boycott of Ford after it was told that Jaguar and Land Rover had dropped ads and sponsorships from gay publications and one organization. The AFA had singled out Ford for promoting organizations that seek to put gay relationships and marriages on the same social plane as heterosexual marriages. Ford dealers asked Ford to settle the dispute. Ford denied that the dropping of ads and sponsorships by Jaguar and Land Rover was in response to the AFA. But the AFA created the perception that Ford had given them what they wanted, which angered several Ford executives--notably CEO Bill Ford.

AFA official could not be reached at deadline. It's widely expected that the group will reinstate its boycott of Ford.

A Staunch Musical!

OMG! Bob mentioned over on Chrisafer's blog of a Grey Gardens musical! I never heard anything about it so I checked in over at Playbill.com and lo and behold! Here's the story about it! Playwrights Horizons did a staged developmental reading of it back in October and the plans are to open off-Broadway in February with Michael Grief directing and starring Mary Louise Wilson and Christine Ebersole!

Dang! I wonder how it will turn out?

Done!

Well, I finally finished off the semester today (Thursday). Did my last Medical Terms I test(on obstetrics and neonatology) this afternoon. I'll find out the offical final grade in another week or two. After I handed that in, I checked my other folder to find out what I got on my final work I did for my Records Management class. To my surprize, I Aced the work, which was surprizing since I had a minor migraine, which is always fun when trying to think, and when I was doing my final assignment, a woman who overdid her perfume sat right down next to me. Yeah, thanx lady! Bad enough I have negative reactions to perfumes and colognes but I gotta migraine to boot so excuse me while your sickeningly sweet stench makes me heave a little! BLAH! Anyway, I miraculously managed to do well and even got an "A" for the final grade for the class. Yay, me! The frackin' easy Imploder...er...Internet Explorer class I finished off back in October has an offical "A" as the final semester grade.

So another semester down and who knows how many more I gotta do. I gotta figure that out one of these days. And now - play catch-up on all the movies I missed seeing in the theatres the past several months. I rented 5 on my way home from Hollywierd Vidiot:
Blade: Trinity
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Kung Fu Hustle
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and
Finding Neverland .

I saw Blade: Trinity this evening. Luckily, I knew it was lousy prior to seeing it but I still wanted to oogle Ryan Reynolds. ::LeSigh:: He and his lines are the only good thing about the movie.

I plan to watch the rest over the next few nights and then go out and rent another batch. I love vacations.
