Tom, Is There Something You Like to Tell Us?

Tom Cruise to speak on mental health issues

Continuing his vigorous advocacy for Scientology's solutions to mental health problems, Tom Cruise will deliver a series of four lectures on topics related to "The Modern Science of Mental Health" beginning next month. Co-sponsored by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, the lectures will be held at Scientology's Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles. All lectures will be free to the public. Due to limited seating at the Celebrity Centre, tickets will be available only to Scientology parishioners and selected members of the press, but the lectures will be simulcast on the web, and a live video feed will be available for broadcasters who wish to cover these highly informative presentations.

The first lecture, set for October 15, is titled "How Psychiatry Invented Schizophrenia, and What Scientologists Can Do About It".

The second lecture, tentatively scheduled for October 22, is on "Handling Sexual Dis-Orientation: Out of the Closet and Into the Auditing Room".

The topic of the third lecture, in early November, will be "Diagnosis and Treatment of So-Called Clinical Depression with the Hubbard Mark Super VII Quantum Electropsychometer".

The fourth lecture is "Neuroanatomical Changes Resulting from Chronic Methamphetamine Abuse: Can Narconon's Sauna and Niacin Treatment Program Help?"

Transcripts of each lecture will be made available after the broadcast.

From what I can figure out from the Battlestar Galactica main site, it looks like the show's next season should start up in January. Good...since there was no mention of when the next season started at the end of this past Friday's episode, I was worried it was cancelled or that they were going to pull a "Sopranos" and not have anything for over a year! I'm glad it's only for 4 months.

Am looking forward to Lost this season and finally getting answers to several questions! ARGH! I hate waiting!! And last night's Desparate Housewives was a hoot! That TIE! And Bree switching it in the middle of the funeral!! Classic!

A Chance to Finally Siddown and Post

Been a bit too busy to post but now that the busy stuff is done for the week, I can finally have a few moments to post.

I've still been dealing with that frelling sore throat this week and went to my allergy and asthma doc this past Tuesday. It struck me over last weekend that since it was going on far longer than usual, I wasn't experiencing any other symptoms other than a very irritated throat and times of dreading swallowing, that it might be thrush caused by my using Advair. (It's one of the more popular inhalers used by asthmatics and it contains a cortocosteroid which can cause thrush.) he checked it all out and he agreed with my diagnosis. Got me started on Mycelex that day and be taking it since. Well, it seems to be doing the trick so I'm happy the problem was discovered.

######

Despite having troubles talking, I still managed to deal with reality and the outside world which included school. Trudged through 3 tests this week (two yesterday and one today) all of which I feel confident that I passed with flying colors. So far, I'm a month ahead in one class, 2.5 months ahead in another, and on schedule with the third. Not too shabby for a lazy-assed bum!

######

Found some of my relatives Tuesday nite on that 1920 census! Ancestry.com got quite a bit of that census up and available finally so I went to check it out and found those rascally relatives! My father's father's parents, and the 5 youngest kidlets (out of the 11) They were living over on W. 17th St. and about 8th Ave (in Manhattan)! OMG, Chelsea! But back when Chelsea wasn't "cool" (not with the NYC gay crowd anyway!)It also surprized my parents since they didn't know that any of my father's side of the family ever lived on the west side of Manhattan since they mostly lived on the lower east side since they all boated over from Europe and then in the Bronx in by 1930. (My mother's side mostly lived in Brooklyn) And at least I found out that my great grandfather was still alive at that point. My father only knew that he had been dead for a few years by the time my dad was born but he didn't know the exact year and no one alive for the past several decades knew either. (My grandfather died back in 1957) I gather great granddad died shortly thereafter.

The past few weeks, I've had parts of this song playing through my brain along with snippets of the video that went with it. It came out either in 82 or 83 and I haven't seen it since so I didn't remember what the name of the song was (Close to the Edit) nor the band's name (Art of Noise) and THAT was driving me nutso. Well, thank da Lawd for google! I was able to track it down!

And here it is complete with cute hoont! I wonder whatever happened to the girl?

What the Frak...?!?

Battlestar Galactica season finale is next Friday?!? But the show's current season just started back in July, a mere two months ago! Shit, that's wacky! And the next season BETTER be starting up not too long from now!!

There's Got to Be a Morning After...

Right-o! Off to watch Battlestar Galactica and hope they show more nearly naked Jamie Bamber. WOOF!

Ack! Part Deux

Ick! I'm still a sicklet. Going into the 6th day. Mostly a sore throat I can't shake (it comes and goes but never goes for good) and a stuffy nose. Dunno why it won't leave. Usually, a cold cruises through me in about 4.

Anyway, it has fucked up weekend plans I had. The Dalai Lama is in town to give a three-day talk/teaching on Chapter 8 (Meditation, Aspiration to Bodhichitta, and Tonglen) of Shantideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life. I got tickets for it months ago and scheduled a room at the hotel but, well, now being ill and not wanting to share whatever germs I have with a few thousand people, I ain't going. Blah! And :fill in deity of your choice here:: knows when he'll be back this a-way again? It's been 12 years since the last time he was here.

Oh, well! Good lesson on suffering.

Chas reminded me that producer/director Robert Wise died Wednesday at the age of 91. He directed such classics as West Side Story, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Sound of Music as well as being involved in several others. He'll be missed.

Ack!

I hate being a sicklet. Alas, a head cold decided to move in late Friday night/early Saturday morning and I've been dealing with it ever since. Between that, trying to stay on top of homework, and battling the idiotic PhundiePhobes on AOL, I've only had enough mental energy to read other people's sites and occasionally comment. Luckily, the cold hit me after Jamie Bamber/Capt. Adama's wonderful towel handling on Battlestar Galactica on Friday night! :-)

######

And a happy birthday to Sam and to Josh.

######

It struck me last night while watching a retrospective on the first 5 years of SNL on NBC that SNL started 30 years ago this month! Cheezus H. Christ on a raft! 30 years already?! ::shaking head:: "Time's fun when yer having flies", said the frog.

I SO Love This Man Right Now

I'm sure y'all have read/talked/watched/heard/whatever the horrendous, sad mess that's continuing on in the New Orleans and surrounding areas and right now, after spending a good chunk of the day watching the news and reading stuff online this evening, I'm too pooped and numb to continue it here right now as well as outraged on how it's been handled. Those poor people.

Anyway, dunno if you, dear readers, heard N.O.'s mayor Ray Nagin's interview yesterday (Thursday) bur it was a wonderful heartfelt, no holds barred interview and I loved how he told TPTB off. I hope Bush hears it!

Thanx to Vince for the link.
