This is the front gate of my home, Casa de Clutter. It's a bit past midnight and it's been raining.

Lost

Two odd ads for Lost for the UK's Channel 4:

This one with music by Portishead and another one but I dunno the band. Both directed by David LaChapelle, I believe.

Thanx for the birthday wishes yesterday. It was the 6th anniversary of my 39th birthday.

I'm still reading the manual for the camera and I plan on playing with it soon. Expect pix.

I've already downloaded a few tunes on Izzy the iPod. What fun.

Who Am I to Deny This?

....and presents always accepted of course! :-)

Your Birthdate: July 26

Your birth on the 26th day of the month (8 energy) modifies your life by increasing your capability to function and succeed in the business world.

In this environment you have the skills to work very well with others thanks to the 2 and 6 energies combining in this date.

There is a marked increase in organizational, managerial, and administrative abilities.

You are efficient and handle money very well.

You're ambitious and energetic, while generally remaining cooperative and adaptable.

You are conscientious and not afraid of responsibility.

Generally sociable and diplomatic, you tend to use persuasion rather than force.

You have a wonderful combination of being good at both the broad strokes and the fine detail; good at starting and continuing. This birthday is practical and realistic, often seeking material satisfaction.

Come On Over!

Oh, Lawdy! I just had fun reliving some childhood memories. For those who grew up in the NYC metro area prior to 1971, you'll pro'lly remember Palisades Amusement Park, located just south of of the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, NJ.

I remember going there twice when I was a wee tyke. Once with my parents and the other with a kids group that met at the Westside YMCA on West 63rd Street in Mahattan (where we took the train up to the GW Bridge and WALKED over the bridge to the park!) O recall the HUGE saltwater pool (biggest in the world, at least at the time), the Hall of Mirrors, the tramway, the Cyclone rollercoaster (which I was too much of a wuss to ride), and all sorts of other attractions.

This site here is chock full of information and pictures as well as documentary dvd on the place which I'm planning to buy at some point.

Alas, the property was sold and the Park closed down forever on September 12, 1971 after 73 years, much to the dismay of many people (I'm sure the kids, especially) who had been there.

To this day, I still can hum the tune for the radio and tv ads that were run back in the 60's for both the park here and for the Little Miss America contest here. (Real Audio needed for both)

And thankfully, Jase won.

Here's the story. Jase landed up being a bit of a media darling and other links can be found on his site.

Yippy Skippy!

::!!BounceBounceBounce!!:: Oh, I'm so excited and happy in the pants! Got official confirmation today from my mom that my birthday prezzies from the parental units are on their way! They got me a digital camera (a Kodak Easy Share CX7525), a memory card for it (I told her to get one since it seems that the internal memory is limited), an iPod Shuffle (which I already decided to name Izzy), and a combo scanner/fax/printer which would be great since I'd like to see if I can get some old family photos scanned and loaded up into my flickr account and since I've got limited desktop space in my office, I can put it where my fax machine is now.

So, hopefully by this weekend I can start putting pix on here that I didn't steal...er..get from somewhere else!

The monsoon season officially started this past Monday since today (Wednesday) was the third consecutive day with an average dew point of 54 degrees.

KA-BOOM!

Well, the TooStoned area just had it's first hella gnarly nasty storm of the monsoon season filled with wind, rain, hail, rain, lightning, rain, flooding, and - oh yeah! - rain. Pima County and Santa Cruz County (to the south) are still under a flood warning till midnight.

1000 to 3000 people were without power on the southside of town and many stop lights are still out.

Update - Local news just reported 35,000 people are without power on the southside and in the town of Oro Valley.

Just had a few flickers here at Casa de Clutter, luckily and I discovered a small leak in the roof over my bedroom.

Seems Like Old Times

Lawdy! I forgot how much I missed this station! "Today's R&B and Classic Soul" I started listening to this station way back in 1979 or so when I went back to NYC to visit.

I decided to check out their website again (which I'm not overly fond of...too clunky and I hate those little icons and pop-ups) and finally see that they broadcasr over it now. I'm a happy camper!

Eye Candy to Make Up For the Previous Pic

This droolful gent is Chris Evans who stars in the recently released Fantastic Four. Maybe one of the few reasons to see the flick. (Yeah, I can be that shallow.)

Hairless Pooch Wins Ugly Dog Contest

Fri Jul 1,11:32 AM ET

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The owners of the other contestants in this year's World's Ugliest Dog Contest may have thought their pooches had a chance — until they saw Sam.

The 14-year-old pedigreed Chinese crested recently won the Sonoma-Marin Fair contest for the third consecutive time, and it's no surprise.

The tiny dog has no hair, if you don't count the yellowish-white tuft erupting from his head. His wrinkled brown skin is covered with splotches, a line of warts marches down his snout, his blind eyes are an alien, milky white and a fleshy flap of skin hangs from his withered neck. And then there's the Austin Powers teeth that jut at odd angles from his mouth.

He's so ugly even the judges recoiled when he was placed on the judging table, said his proud owner, Susie Lockheed, of Santa Barbara.

"People are always horrified when I kiss him. He may turn into a prince yet. He's definitely a toad," she said. "I always thought he'd be great on greeting cards or on a commercial for Rogaine."

Sam, who's pushing 15, has something of a cult following after winning the contest — and fans' hearts — for three years running. Last year, huge crowds gathered around Sam and Lockheed at a local parade and Lockheed said she received letters and calls about her pup for weeks.

"So many people have told me they've got his picture on their refrigerator. He certainly has a little cult following," she said. "I did years of professional musical theater and never achieved the fame Sam has."

Sam will appear in this weekend's Fourth of July parade in Santa Barbara, but the recent events may be the cap on a long, ugly career. Lockheed says Sam's now suffering from congestive heart failure, lung and kidney problems and has definitely slowed down in his twilight years.

Still, he enjoys regular gourmet meals of sirloin steak, cheese balls, roasted chicken and flan (so he'll swallow his multiple pills). He also passes occasional weekends at the Gaviota ranch of Lockheed's boyfriend, where the World's Ugliest Dog rides in the back of an ATV with his few remaining hairs wafting in the wind.

The Return of Moi

Wow! Can't believe it's been a week since I last posted. I had planned to post but either getting too tired and grumpy to or too busy and cought up in something else prevented me from posting and all I got to do was to troll through other blogs and tribe.net, occasionally leaving comments.

Alas, the London explosions. How tragic. Shit! I watch the news and shake my head in wonder about humanity and how people can do things like that to others. War, murder, terrorism, etc - sheesh! Sometimes finding a cave (with a generator and tastfully decorated) and telling the rest of the world to fuck off and die sounds appealing. "Civilization"?!? I don't think people know the meaning a lot of the times.

Finished off my class I was taking today and pretty sure I aced the damned thing. YAY, me! No school till Fall semester kicks in on Aug. 24th. I still need to register for that.

Wingspan, the local glbt center I volunteer at, is in the process of moving to it's new and bigger location this week and will reopen next Monday July 11th. I haven't seen the new place yet but will when I go in for my shift. It'll be exciting. It's the third location its been in since I started working there; each place bigger than the last. I'm glad it's got the means and reasons to do so and am glad that piddly TooStoned has got a glbt center.

This is KooKoo:

Say hello to her (Hi, Kookoo!) You may recognize her as one of the stars from the 1932 movie "Freaks".

She's helping me to introduce a website I came across called Phreeque.com which has actual photos of many oddities or "freaks" that have lived over the past 150 or so years. Dunno how many of the readers here have any fascination or interest in them so for those that do, here ya go. In a way, being gay, which can be considered an outsider apart from "normal society", I feel a bit of a connection to being a "freak" as well. Not saying it's right or correct but I understand a wee bit. A friend of mine, Kelly, worked on the carny circuit for many years as a truck driver/set-up & strike person as well as a real live sword swallower and knew several of the sideshow attractions. Interesting stories from him.

This is a mug shot of an unidentified woman taken back in 1906. I just LOVE it. Something about the dignity I see in her despite it being a police mug shot and whatever humiliation she felt being arrested attracted me. Besides, I love the hat and outfit as well.

If anyone is interested in old photos, it's one of many mug shots (no one famous, tho) that can be found at a site someone set up on flickr.com titled Least Wanted.

I found that site via Screenhead.
